Prince Hall Family Celebrates 250 Years with Black Tie Brunch Supporting SickKids Sickle Cell Program
Toronto, ON — September 2025 — This year marks a historic milestone for the Prince Hall Family (TPHF), celebrating 250 years of global leadership, community service, and Black excellence. To honour the occasion, TPHF is hosting its Inaugural Black Tie Brunch on Sunday, September 28, 2025 in Scarborough.
The event will not only celebrate the proud legacy of Prince Hall but also fuel a powerful cause: raising funds for the SickKids Sickle Cell Disease Clinic, which will be named in honour of Joseph & Norma Halstead and family on behalf of TPHF.
This is more than an anniversary celebration — it is a call to action, uniting Black leaders, entrepreneurs, and community builders in the fight for health equity.
The Legacy of Prince Hall in Canada
Since arriving in Ontario in 1852, the Prince Hall Family has stood at the forefront of equality, empowerment, and progress. From scholarships and bursaries to mentorship and community upliftment, the organization has helped shape the foundation of Black leadership across generations.
Today, that mission continues with urgency — addressing Sickle Cell Disease, a condition that disproportionately impacts Black children and families.
“For over 170 years, the Prince Hall Family has stood for leadership, service, and community,” said Alex Poole, M.W. Grand Master, Prince Hall. “This Inaugural Black Tie Brunch is more than a celebration; it’s a rallying call to build a healthier, more equitable future together.”
Black Leadership, Global Influence
Throughout its history, Prince Hall has counted among its members trailblazing figures such as Shaquille O’Neal, Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr., and Lincoln Alexander — Ontario’s first Black Lieutenant Governor. Their legacy of leadership, vision, and service continues to inspire today’s generation of entrepreneurs, professionals, and changemakers.
Partnership with SickKids
This fundraising partnership also marks a powerful alignment with SickKids Foundation, which is celebrating 150 years of advancing children’s health. SickKids’ Black Experience @ SickKids program is addressing inequities in health care directly, with a focus on conditions like Sickle Cell Disease.
“Nowhere is this more urgent than in sickle cell disease, a condition that disproportionately impacts Black children and families,” said Jennifer Bernard, President & CEO of SickKids Foundation.
